Solution: developed an illustration and icon style that felt simple and youthful to demonstrate a fantastic world with imagery akin to that of a children’s book.
I found this independent project to be a wonderful success. By selling sixteen decks of cards I was able to break even on the project and keep a hoard of extras for myself.
Each archetype is represented by the four suits. Warriors are Spades, Mages are Clovers, Priests are Hearts, and Rogues are Diamonds.
The pattern on the back of the deck/cards tells the story of two alliances (the two types of suits) battling for control over the vast and ever-changing world as illustrated in the abstract center.
